Gods Among Men: The ComicCon Presentation

Sunday, June 15 2014

ComicCon is coming up! For those who can't be there, Nathan goes through his full presentation and then some, exploring ideas of individualism—Radical Individualism—as they are reflected in superheroes and comic books. Using characters like Batman, Superman, Iron Man and Thor as exemplars, Nathan talks about the way that superheroes can manifest different aspects of individual autonomy. Both the hero and the tyrant fall within the scope of possibility when someone of exceptional abilities uses that power to fully realize their own morality and values. "Where do superheroes get the moral sanction to take the actions they take?" is the overarching question that frames the whole presentation, and points toward a whole set of intriguing questions.
